Problem

Problem: Should I get an MP3 player?

Restatement: It is necessary for my lifestyle to have an MP3 player?

Pros: Portable music while I run, at the gym, walk to class, travel...

Cons: Expensive, another gadget to distract me

Cons fixes: In order to cope with the expense I could work an extra day a week for a month. Also I could cut back on other expenses temporarily. As far as the distraction, I could vow to only update it with music on the weekend so not to take away from valuable study time on the weekdays.

Solution: Ultimately, I believe the pros exceed the cons and the sacrifces that will have to be made to get the mp3 player are not really sacrafices at all. I believe that my lifestyle is in desperate need for portable music (haha), and what am I working for anyways, we only live once.

Seems like you've thought through this little issue pretty well. Your fixes for the cons are reasonable - they just require discipline for you to follow through on. Are you disciplined enough to stick with those?

I have thought through the same process you are contemplating... My husband got me one for my birthday and WOW... I have never looked back. Now I use it for books, teaching tools, yoga music, news casts, edu-podcasts, radio casts, etc. The world is your oyster... I received the photo iPod and can store my photos as well... You don't have to buy an expensive set of speakers for it either... I took an old set of computer speakers and set them up in my classroom... The iPod works beautifully through them and it didn't cost me a cent. Not to mention hauling cds in and out of my car, home and classroom has been eliminated. WAHOO!

GET ONE.
